Today’s hot coat on the asymmetric long(ish)… laps only. These will be sanded back before a final gloss coat… all in the interests of reduced weight but equal strength.

Sky tint on Outer Limits spiral-V Legacy

Well the cat is poking his head out of the bag… this is the first Outer Limits board in over 30 years. There wont be many, just 25 and all custom orders. Drop me an email if you are interested.

Jason (glassing) used to work with Martin back when he was a young’un learning the ropes,so was stoked to be working on an Outer Limits. Jase threw up one dilemma though – fixed fin or box? Heart says fixed, head says box!

The new 5’8 Sprat, the new 6’0 Porpoise, and the new 6’4 Atlantic POD… all nearing completion with subtle evolutions in the concaves rockers and foils.

Tinting some…

Went in to the factory today to glass 4 boards… I only got 4 bottoms done in the end and a resin band… colours came out well. Carbon kevlar was interesting stuff… no easy way to trim it after it gels as nothing can cut it – should be really log-lasting then!

 

Busy day…

Finally got started on the resin band on the Joker. Pulled the tape at the perfect time . Daz glossing a Campbell Bros Bonzer 5. My porpoise taped up ready for tomorrows glassing marathon…

At long last fins

You know how some things sometimes drag on and you just can’t seem to get them done. Well this set of fins has been one such job but finally, after a prompt (thanks Pete) I got my arse in gear on got on with it. 2 CRV template rear fins for a Riddler for Roachy a few months back.

More tint

The longboard is now glassed and ready for the bonzer fins in American Ash… probably next week now.

Glassing the concave as a panel has worked really well with a big upside being extra definition of the transition so I should be able to get a really good edge on it. Fin boxes, pinlines and a resin band are also still to come, then finished off with a gloss and polish.

Resinating the concave

Part 2 of glassing the Joker EVO5/6 bonzer longboard... 6oz light kelpy tint (red just seemed too shouty for such an unusual board) over the clear preglassed 4oz concave and then trimming out the panel. This will then receive a 4oz clear patch over it once the deck is glassed... more tomorrow.

Dilemma… I wanted a resin tint and a clear nose concave. The only way I could think how to do this was with a 3 stage glass job on the bottom. 4oz nose concave panel. Next week I'll tint the bottom with 6oz but cut out the panel. Then I’ll put a 4oz patch over the whole thing. The end result will be minimal extra weight and a nice clear spoon concave within the tint.
