Ant’s non-bonzer…

   

5’10 x 19 3/4” x 2 3/8” single concave throughout… Ant, long-time bonzer rider for me was looking for a change, and persuaded me to do a non-bonzer with the statement that “if i didn't make him something like this, someone else would have to”… so I succumbed and he has named this “Zendog” and wants a commission on all future orders LOL. They certainly are a lot easier to make!

Take Sprat

5’8 x 19 7/8 x 2 5/8” Sprat with bonzer bottom. Set up with FCS quad SF4s or as FCS thruster with G5s
Double concave vortex channel set into a single concave leads into a double concave V with double concave channels set inside to guide the water out the back into a slight single concave. Gentle rocker with a flip in the tail. Beak nose for easier wave catching. 
I rode this for the first time last night and was amazed i could actually catch waves on it… it was stable on take off and drivey across the face – the waves were s**t but first impressions were good :). It’s now being tested out by a few of the Connies crew to get some feedback.
 
 

Bonzer Quad goes east – FreakFish EVO4

Yeah freaky has been great heaps of float, was surfing it at a spot called Passe or mushroom point the other day for a couple of days and she flew.
It was so shallow i nicked the fin a couple of times on the bottom turn but nothing major, she got me in and out of some great barrels,
only 2ft but beautiful hollow barrels!! Great fun.
She's kinda like a twinie with a bit more drive and the channels are interesting never surfed with those before.
Glad you had a great trip in mex and thanks a million for the board. She's just the other kinda feel i was searching for.

Debate with a guru…

I was chatting to various people at the OM Surfboard Factory the other day and we were discussing my latest board (for me) – nicknamed the FreakFish… it’s a bonzer 4 fin with what I am calling the “EVO4” set-up and a complex concave bottom…
We were shooting the breeze about the purpose of surfing. Some were saying ultimately it was all about high performance and speed, speed to do manoeuvres and go different places on the wave… I agreed with much of what was said but something didn’t sit comfortably. For me it has always been less about speed and performance and more about sensations, experimenting and trying new things, often prompted by trying different boards (like keel fin McCoy Nuggets, Cinqo 5 fins, and most recently Bonzers) most of which do not sit comfortably in the conventional performance bracket.
As if to make the point this morning I was gliding through a flat spot on a chest high onshore sloppy wave at my local beach on my Malcolm Campbell 6’6” POD… I’d moved forward to trim (where the thruster kids would have slapped, flapped, pumped and jumped about as the wave died under them)… and truly relished in the quiet effortless glide that carried me through, and then as the wave started to reform… I stepped back, dropped in to the section, bottom turned and smacked that lip like a good little thruster-kid of the 80s.
